Vermins is now available for free!

About the game

I started this project with no experience of software or game development.

The game provides a turn-based,  grid-based, isometric, strategy experience that's focused around the idea of "building your own team".

When you enter the game, the first thing you will do is create a new team. First, add a vermin to your team. Then, click on it to select it (you can change its outline color if you want to) and give it some spells in order to choose its fighting style, or give it some items to make it stronger. You have a total of 120 "pixels" to spend for each team you make. Initially, you will only have access to 5 classes of vermin (out of 24) and one category of item, to avoid overloading the game with information. You can unlock all classes by defeating them once in single-player!

The game features 4 different regions with unique "vermins" and giants as opponents, and unique maps. Defeating the giant of the region will unlock the next region.

If you play the downloadable version, you can also play against a friend in local multiplayer (two instances of the game are needed)! Connect via local IP and see who can make the best team!

Balance-focused beta

With the game now entering a balance-focused beta, I would be delighted to know what you think of the game.

Since the game revolves around the idea of "team creation", I wanted to include many classes, spells and items to create many combinations for the player to explore.

But it created so many combinations, that it made it very difficult to balance all the different content. So, although the game is complete with content (sound is being worked on),

I am hoping to get feedback to help balance the content with the goal of : "allow as many combinations as possible".

Don't hesitate to let me know what you think of the game, what you would like different, bugs you encounter... I would be extremely thankful for any feedback 🙂 !

Play now

The game is available as an instant play in your browser in a single-player only version, or you can download the full version as a single-file executable for Windows and play against a friend in local multiplayer!

(I can also make a Linux version but I can't test it properly yet so it's not listed on the game page). However, as the save file is not shared between the two versions, my advice is to stick to one of them to avoid having two different save files.

I would like to thank the artists that made this project possible by making these accessible yet amazing assets. Their names are on the game page and in the credits in-game, where you can click on their names to visit their respective page on itch.io.

Thank you for reading. I hope you'll have fun playing this game!
